Special Event: Old Print, New Voices this Saturday

We’re breaking new ground and we’re doing it on old ground: Cucumber Writers brings you our first evening of plays all set in the very place they’re being staged. Birmingham’s famous Old Print Works in Balsall Heath is the home to four new plays inspired by the building, its history and its characters.

It’s at 19:00 on this Saturday, 21 October, at The Old Print Works – 506 Moseley Road, Birmingham B12 9AH – and tickets are available to book now on the official site.

In Time
by William Gallagher
Jemima is a print designer in 1969 and dreaming of her future. David is a web designer in 2017 and longing for a simpler time. For one brief moment, they meet, they clash and they have the chance to swap places forever. But will they – and should they? In Time is dedicated to the late Shirley Rubinstein.

Types
by Alex Townley
Matthew is finding his focus in life, and Angela is finding her voice. In amongst the noise and bustle of the print works their two very different worlds connect, and they find each other.

The Importance of Stuff
by Vita Fox
Maxine has lost something. Actually Maxine hasn’t lost it, thank you, it’s just misplaced. Maxine knows exactly where it was except it’s not there anymore and you’re no help at all, Fred. A play about searching for the wrong things, losing the right things, and missing what’s right in front of you. Today is a gift, that’s why they call it the present. And as soon as Maxine finds the present, she can leave.

High Maintenance Machines
by Richard O’Brien
1943: Sally used to make hair grips. Now she’s making rifle shells. 2017: Craig used to have dreams. Now he’s here to help you follow yours. One building, sixty-something years apart. Some things change – and some things stick around.

Four fresh new plays that take you deep inside one of Birmingham history’s treasures. Book your ticket right now and we’ll see you there.

Thank you to The Old Print Works and Arts Council England for making this evening possible.
